History:
Sprite was developed in 1959 in West Germany under the name “Fanta Klare Zitrone” as Coca-Cola’s response to 7 Up. It launched in Europe in 1961, rapidly becoming a popular, caffeine-free alternative. In 2013, European bottlers introduced a lower-sugar formulation using stevia, then replaced it in 2018 with aspartame and acesulfame K to meet sugar tax regulations while maintaining taste.
